Food related coupons from 1-22-12 Star News Smart Source
  • Chock Full O Nuts – coffee has no calories =)
  •  French’s Mustard – a VERY wise choice over mayonnaise!
  • Pepsi – as long as it’s diet
  • Johnsonville Sausage (any type) – the chicken sausage variety has 50% less fat read about it here on their website
  • ¢ off on Lays chips when you buy their dip – They do make a light version of lays but the Olestra/Olean they use to fry them in can cause some tummy upset in some people…so it can be ok but otherwise, no
  • HERSHEY’s – well, who doesn’t like chocolate whether its good for you or not!

The Raleigh News & Observer won the best coupons this week!  Lets break them down by health benefits or lack thereof…
 First, the Smart Source insert...
  •  Kraft Dressings – Oh yeah…they make these in light AND fat free – winner
  • AdvantEDGE or ZonePerfect bars – benefits if you use these
  • Yoplait – both regular and Greek – right on…yep!  Good choice
  • Cheerios – uh-huh these are GREAT for a healthy diet! Even as a snack for the munchies instead of chips!
  • Cake mix and frosting – well, no, but for a special occasion these are nice for sure!
  • Swanson’s Chicken Breast (canned) – YES!  This is great with low/no fat mayo, relish, hard boiled egg whites and celery for a very healthy chicken salad!
  • Nathan’s Fries, Onion Rings or Potato Pancakes – nope…not for health (its fried)
  • Pace – OH yeah…great choice for sure!  Salsa chicken breasts in the crock pot are a favorite!
  • Pepperidge Farms Baked Naturals Snacks – they’re baked not fried
  • Hunt’s canned tomatoes – YUP, great choice for recipes!
  • Orville Redenbacher’s Pop Corn – less butter varieties are a healthy diet staple for sure!
  • Chock Full O Nuts – coffee has no calories ;)
  • Oreo Ice Cream cakes or rolls – Nah…prolly outta bypass this one
  • Red Baron, Tony’s or Freshetta Pizza – not great, but who doesn’t like a good pizza with veggies or spinach and tomato?
  • Frank’s Hot Sauce or Sweet Chili Sauce – absolutely, instead of high fat mayo, these are great on sandwiches, eggs, rice, etc
  • Lay’s chips and dip – see above from SS of Star News
  • Pepsi – as long as it’s diet
  • French’s Mustard, honey or Dijon, or dipping sauce- any of these are perfect…I like to make chicken breast baked in the honey dipping sauce for a healthy dinner
  • Mt Olive Pickles – YES!  No calories to speak of!
  • A1 Steak sauce – lower calorie for baked potatoes than butter and sour cream, try it for a low calorie side!
  • Sargento Shredded Cheeses – yep, in the reduced fat version!
  • White Castle Burgers – I cant even TRY and make these healthy so, no
  • Tyson Any’tizers – these are fried, so for health reasons, they are not a good choice
  • Hershey’s!  We wont go there again!  Chocolate should have it’s own part of the food triangle!
  • Fleischmann’s Pizza Crust Yeast – a homemade pizza with veggies is a healthier choice than any of the others!
  • Real California marked cheeses – in moderation cheese is a great source of protein
  • Budweiser BBQ sauce – another great choice for baked potatoes (instead of butter and sour cream) or on grilled chicken.
  • Johnsonville Sausage – see above, get chicken variety
  • French’s Worcestershire Sauce – always good for you on anything
  • Lunchables – with fruit is a good choice and they come with a rice crispy treat so that’s a better choice than cookies

  • Velveeta cheese – well, no…processed and high in calories but it’s yummy for a Super Bowl dip!
  • HeluvaGood dips – only if they make a light version
  • WhoNu? Cookies – these are good, they have as much fiber as a bowl of oatmeal, as much calcium as a glass of milk, and as much vitamin C as a cup of blueberries so they say in a serving size of  3 cookies.
